What are safety risk analytics?

Introduction

Highwire’s safety risk analytics provide clients with deep insights into contractors’ safety programs and management systems through sophisticated analysis of safety documentation. Utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), Highwire assesses the context and quality of key systems and programs. These programs are rated General, Detailed, or Comprehensive, helping clients facilitate important collaboration with contractors to address identified risks before work begins.

In combination with Highwire’s other safety metrics, safety risk analytics allow safety professionals and preconstruction teams to collaborate with their contractors to continuously improve relevant safety programs and management systems and deliver better, safer work.

The Use of AI in Analyzing Safety Risk

Highwire uses AI to validate the answers contractors provide during their risk assessments. The AI model is trained with contextual data and carefully crafted prompts to identify and grade each leading safety indicator.

Over the past few months, in-house safety experts partnered with Highwire engineers to test and validate that the contractor insights and validation delivered through AI are even better than the results achieved through a combination of text matching and human-validated insights.

Safety Risk Analytics in the Highwire Application

In addition to existing flags that highlight risks related to lagging indicators, Highwire is introducing Orange Discrepancies and Green Positive findings to highlight risks related to leading indicators (e.g., safety management systems, program elements, and advanced initiatives). Orange Discrepancies and Green Positive indicators are used to deliver specific safety risk insights that are generated from analyzing a contractor’s safety documentation.

You can access Highwire’s risk analytics in a contractor’s Risk Overview tab as detailed in the article, “How do I view a contractor’s risk overview tab?

Why can’t I see Orange Discrepancy and Green Positive Indicators for all of my contractors?

Initially, only new contractors enrolling after August 15th, 2024 will be assessed using the new AI-based  safety risk analytics. By early 2025, all contractors will have safety risk indicators based on the insights Highwire finds in their safety documentation.

Continued Committment to Data Security

As an ISO 27001, SOC2, and GDPR-certified company, Highwire has a thorough, validated vetting process for all vendors we partner with. Highwire’s safety risk analytics are developed with Microsoft Azure AI Service, which provides a highly secure and private data model trained specifically for Highwire. The training data is never shared with OpenAI, ChatGPT or other third-party AI models. This article provides further details on Highwire’s extensive 3rd-party data security certifications.
